Tomato Economics

By Harry Howe on August 28, 2013 in Timing

It’s that time of year again when friends and neighbors are desperately giving away their bountiful crop of home grown tomatoes before they take over their entire kitchen. How is it that just weeks ago we would have paid a precious price for a delicious home grown tomato? Yet now we politely refuse yet one more gift of produce.

The answer is timing. A wise man has said: “timing is everything”. The economics of tomatoes is a reminder to business owners that timing is critical. With that in mind, here is some timely advice:

1. When considering a new product or service, remember that supply and demand usually follows a predictable timeline and your profitability over its lifecycle will be dependent on your timing.

2. Meet your commitments on-time.

3. Use your time wisely and don’t waste mine.
